update about the dogs
as it turned out, luda didn't need x-rays but the vet was worried that maybe pete broke a tooth off in his leg so we had to watch that for a few days. he's fine. he got some anti-inflamatory drugs and pain killers for a few days and now he's good as new.
i talked to peter's vet last week and we've modified his weaning off of the steroids again so this should help with the aggression and we've taken to separating the two when we leave the house. we put luda upstairs and leave peter downstairs. it's been working out just fine. otherwise, brian takes peter and ethel to the skatepark with him when he goes to work and leaves luda at home. that is also working out quite well.
i started getting up 1/2 hour earlier in the mornings so that i can walk the dogs before i go to work. they seem to really enjoy that time a great deal and overall seem a lot less stressed out and a lot happier. the transition of my returning to work really must have freaked peter out more than we anticipated. his anxiety hit an all time high and i guess it must have manifested itself in a way that he took it out on luda for some reason.
since we've made these other changes there's been no aggressive behavior towards luda.
yesterday, i was walking peter and luda by the river. this particular path never has people on it. in all the times i've walked them i've never run into anyone else... well, yesterday i did. peter and the other dog were fine. they sniffed each other... tails wagging, ears up, hair down... all seemed just fine. until luda ran up.
the grampa who's dog it was got nervous that his dog would bite luda and his tone must have freaked out pete because when he yelled at his dog peter immediately attacked the other dog. who fought back. peter got a nasty little cut on his nose and must have gotten cut inside too because his nose was bleeding for a bit afterwards.
the fight didn't really last so it was more of a dog argument than a fight really...
over before it started.
